ComCom Fines Sezoni TV GEL 2,500 for the Use of Foul Language On Air

The Communications Commission has fined Sezoni TV GEL 2,500 for violating the Law of Georgia on Broadcasting. Specifically, monitoring conducted by the Commission revealed that in May and June of this year, Sezoni TV aired the programme “Daily Review with Nikoloz Mzhavanadze” at 21:00, where offensive language was used once by a guest, and once by the host.

According to the Law on Broadcasting, programmes containing offensive language are considered unsuitable for minors under 15 years of age. Therefore, the law obliges the broadcaster to protect the interests of minors and by not broadcasting unsuitable programmes between 18:00 and 23:00. As the offensive language was used in the programme aired at 21:00, the Communications Commission determined that the broadcaster violated the legislation.

Due to the fact that Sezoni TV had already been cautioned for a similar violation in the past year, the Communications Commission issued the broadcaster with a fine.
