ComCom Holds a Lecture on MVNOs at the Georgian Technical University

ComCom member Ekaterine Imedadze held a public lecture for over 100 students at the Georgian Technical University on the subject of mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) and the opening of the telecom market. The aim of the lecture was to raise awareness about the telecom industry among young people.

During the lecture, participants learned about the operations of both traditional and new-model mobile service operators, the differences between a mobile network operator (MNO) and a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), as well as the capabilities and positive aspects of MVNOs. The meeting also discussed the situation in this section of the Georgian telecom market, and the role of the Communications Commission in developing the telecommunications sector in Georgia.

A mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) is a mobile service provider that does not have its own network and infrastructure, and instead uses another operator’s network to provide customer-tailored niche services. Providing MVNOs with access to the Georgian market is a vital component of opening the telecom market, removing barriers and enhancing competition. In turn, this will ensure that consumers have access to more affordable and diverse offers.

ComCom will continue to hold informational meetings about the telecom industry and modern technologies in other universities across Georgia.
