ComCom Holds an Organisational Meeting with 160 School Principals to Integrate Media Literacy Into Formal Education

The Communications Commission, with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science and the financial backing of UNICEF, held informational meetings in Batumi, Ozurgeti, Zugdidi and Kutaisi to promote the integration of media literacy into formal education. More than 160 school principals took part in the event, which included a presentation on the subject of media literacy and the educational resources created witin the framework of the project to integrate media literacy into formal education.

The project to integrate media literacy into formal education serves to add media literacy as an optional subject for X, XI and XII grade students and to raise awareness about media literacy, media and information language, information processing and misinformation among youngsters. To this end, ComCom trained 600 teachers across Georgia in teaching media literacy in 2023.

The Communications Commission has signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Teachers’ Professional Development Centre (TPDC) and UNICEF, which will make the resources created within the framework of TPDC’s project integrate media literacy into formal education available for the further training of 1000 additional teachers.
