ComCom Holds Another Meeting with Broadcasters on Content Regulation and Product Placement

The Communications Commission continues its working dialogue with broadcasters amid ongoing violations in practice relating to both content regulation and product placement on air. In this regard, ComCom members Ani Vazagashvili and Ivane Makharadze held another working meeting with broadcaster representatives.

The meeting addressed the amendments introduced to the Law of Georgia on Broadcasting in April 2025 and the content standards established under those amendments, including the requirements to uphold the principles of due accuracy, fairness and impartiality.

The participants also discussed the rules governing product placement and commercial communications, issues related to broadcaster funding and advertising revenue, and other current matters concerning the broadcasting sector. Broadcaster representatives had the opportunity to ask questions on issues of interest to them and express their views.

ComCom representatives also highlighted the guidelines developed and published by the Commission, which serve as a practical editorial guide to the regulatory standards for media professionals. The document explains the requirements for accuracy, fairness, impartiality and respect for privacy; how facts should be distinguished from opinions; and the criteria the Commission applies when assessing potential violations.

The Communications Commission developed the guidelines following the amendments to the Law of Georgia on Broadcasting, to provide broadcasters with greater clarity regarding both the practical implementation of statutory requirements and the Commission’s regulatory approach.

The Communications Commission calls on all broadcasters operating in Georgia to carefully review the relevant legal requirements once again and ensure compliance with the standards established by law. Through cooperation and ongoing dialogue with the broadcasters, ComCom aims to promote effective enforcement of the law, safeguard freedom of expression and media pluralism, and foster the development of a stable media environment.
