ComCom Holds Working Meeting with ITU, EaPeReg and EMERG Representatives

The Communications Commission hosted a meeting with representatives from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Eastern Partnership Electronic Communications Regulators Network (EaPeReg) and Euro-Mediterranean Regulators Group (EMERG). The meeting took place within the framework of three-way partnership between ITU, EaPeReg and EMERG. Its purpose was to discuss examples from different countries, identify challenges and set future plans with regards to the implementation of the digital map for the purpose of strengthening broadband infrastructure and services. 

The meeting was opened by ComCom member and 2023 EaPeReg Chair Ekaterine Imedadze, who talked about the positive aspects of cooperation between ITU, EaPeReg and EMERG, and specifically about the opportunities to share best practices. Further opening speeches were made by the Co-Chair of EMERG and the representative of the ITU Office for Europe. 

The opening part of the meeting was followed by the participants presenting examples from different member countries in order to share experience. The example of Georgia was discussed by the ComCom Head of Technology and Spectrum Department Sandro Karumidze. Presentations on individual examples were also made by representatives of Portuguese and Romanian regulators. 

The Communications Commission prioritises the implementation of the digital map to reduce broadband fees and strengthen services.
