ComCom: In 2024, the Average Monthly Data Traffic Per Capita was 15 GB
According to the 2024 Activity Report of the Communications Commission, the volume of data traffic generated by mobile service subscribers increased by 19% year-over-year and amounted to 655 petabytes.
Magticom subscribers generated 47% of the total mobile data traffic in 2024, while Silknet and Cellfie Mobile subscribers generated 34% and 18%, respectively. This is due to the introduction of 5G technology, increased demand for internet access, an increase in the number of mobile internet users, and an increase in the number of smartphones on the market.
Notably, the average monthly mobile data traffic per subscriber has increased by 18% year-over-year to 15 GB in 2024. Magticom once again leads the market with the average monthly figure of 22 GB per subscriber, followed by Halo with 21 GB, Silknet with 14 GB, and Cellfie Mobile with 9 GB.
With the introduction of 5G and the growth of 4G, the volume of data traffic generated by 2G and 3G technologies is decreasing. In 2024, 4G accounted for 97% of all mobile data traffic.
In 2024, the Communications Commission held another auction to offer mobile operators harmonised frequency resources for 5G technology. During the auction, Magticom acquired the frequency resources and immediately began offering 5G to its customers. Cellfie Mobile had already acquired the license for 5G frequencies during the auction held by the Communications Commission in 2023, and the company is in the process of gradually developing its network. It is therefore expected that 5G technology will account for a significant share of mobile data traffic in Georgia by 2025.
