ComCom Issues BMG with a Violation Protocol for Unlawful Placement of Political Advertising
The Communications Commission has deemed the television company BMG to have violated the Election Code of Georgia and issued the broadcaster with a violation protocol.
Media monitoring carried out by ComCom established that BMG aired free political adverts of the political unions Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia, Alliance of Patriots of Georgia, Girchi, Coalition for Change – Gvaramia Melia Girchi Droa, European Democrats and Unity – National Movement in violation of the law.
According to the Election Code of Georgia, public broadcasters, community broadcasters and national general broadcasters must place free political advertising. Due to the fact that BMG does not fall under any of the listed categories, it is prohibited from allocating airtime to electoral subjects for the placement of free political advertising. Therefore, the Communications Commission deemed the broadcaster to have violated the law and issued it with a violation protocol.
