ComCom Issues Palitra News and Obieqtivi with Violation Protocols for Unlawful Placement of Political Advertising
The Communications Commission has deemed Palitra News and Obieqtivi to have violated the Election Code of Georgia and issued them with violation protocols.
ComCom carried out media monitoring and found that Palitra News placed free political adverts of the political unions Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia, Girchi, European Democrats and Citizens in violation of the Election Code, while Obieqtivi aired the free political adverts of Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia and the Alliance of Patriots in violation of the same code.
According to the Election Code of Georgia, public broadcasters, community broadcasters and national general broadcasters must place free political advertising. Due to the fact that Palitra News and Obieqtivi do not fall under any of the listed categories, they are prohibited from allocating airtime to electoral subjects for the placement of free political advertising. Therefore, the Communications Commission ruled deemed both broadcasters to have violated the law and issued them with violation protocols.
