ComCom Media Lab to Hold Practical Seminars for the Finalists of the Millennium Innovations Award
The Communications Commission has entered into a partnership with the Millennium Innovations Awards (MIA). The awards ceremony was launched in 2014 with the support of the US Embassy, aiming to get more students interested in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM). The annual contest consists of three stages. The Media Lab of the Communications Commission will help this year’s finalists to improve their projects.
Specifically, the Media Lab will provide mentorship to the MIA finalists in creating and testing a prototype, and preparing a presentation for the panel. Media Lab mentors will individually assist the teams participating in the contest and provide consultation on the issues of interest.
As part of the MIA contest, students aged 13 to 17 can form teams of 2-4 people and submit projects in the following categories: Space and Aviation; Cyber Technologies and Security; Environmental Protection, Energy and Climate Change; Healthcare and Nutrition; Applied Technologies and Applications; and Robotics.
The contest is organised by the Millennium Foundation. The winning team will visit the NASA Space Center in the United States, and the team members will be enrolled in NASA Summer University. The second-placed team will travel to Stanford University for a summer robotics programme, while the third-placed team will visit the European Center for Nuclear Research in Switzerland as part of an educational trip.
The involvement of the ComCom Media Lab in the final stage of the contest will significantly help young people improve their projects and develop practical skills. This cooperation will be a new opportunity for the Communications Commission to promote STEM education in the country.
