ComCom Member Ekaterine Imedadze Speaks at the WSIS Forum in Geneva

Communications Commission member Ekaterine Imedadze took part at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in Geneva. At the high-level policy session “Enabling Environment,” Ms Imedadze talked about the development of digital IT, creating an enabling environment for digital transformation, and the role of regulatory bodies in this process. 

The commissioner also talked about the important initiatives implemented by ComCom in the field of promoting competition on the telecom market, removing barriers to market entry and introducing new technologies. She emphasised that to facilitate investment, the Commission creates a supportive and competitive environment for market players based on various European models. Furthermore, she discussed the regional opportunities for Georgia and noted that it is important for the Communications Commission to create a data exchange centre within the country, and to make Georgia a digital hub of the South Caucasus region through underwater digital corridors. 

The World Summit on the Information Society is a joint event of the ITU and the United Nations, in which experts in the field of information and communication, policy makers and representatives of regulatory bodies participate and share their practices with each other while discussing current issues. The forum concluded with high-level political sessions, where the heads of policy-making and regulatory bodies presented their views on important topics related to the development of the industry.
