Communications Commission member Ekaterine Imedadze held important meetings with Deputy Director General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology of the European Commission, Renate Nikolay, at the Mobile World Congress organised by the Groupe Speciale Mobile Association (GSMA). 

The main topic of discussion during the meetings in Barcelona was the provision of support for the telecommunications industry in Georgia, namely through ComCom’s membership in the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC) and the ongoing efforts to include Georgia in the EU common roaming space. Bilateral meetings were also held with the chairman of BEREC and the heads of telecom regulatory bodies of Ireland and France. The main topics of discussion were ensuring deeper international cooperation and sharing experience. 

MWC is the telecom industry’s largest event, counting more than 88,000 guests and participants this year. Topics of discussion at the 2023 event included the development of 5G and 6G technologies, digital transformation and the role of technology in shaping a better future. In order to implement the EU’s legislative framework and the process of approximation with EU practices, the Communications Commission will continue to prioritise the sharing of experience and deepening of international cooperation.
