ComCom Member Natia Kukuladze Moderates a Panel Discussion at a Student Conference

Member of the Communications Commission Natia Kukuladze moderated a panel discussion at a student conference organised by Alterbridge University. The discussion was titled “Information Influences and Threats in the Digital Age: Media Literacy as a Response,” and was attended by students from Alterbridge and Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. The panel discussed topics such as the use of social psychology in media literacy programmes as a path to reducing misinformation; disinformation and information security in the digital age; prospects for the development of digital citizenship and media literacy in the Georgian general education system; hate speech and online discrimination in the digital age: media literacy as a prevention mechanism; and disinformation as a basis for restricting freedom of expression: protected space and balance of legitimate interests. 

The fourth student conference “Freedom in the Digital Age: Thinking, Communication and Change” was dedicated to a multifaceted understanding of freedom, communication and social change in the context of modern digital transformation. The conference aimed to develop the skills of research, analysis and critical thinking among students, promote multidisciplinary academic dialogue, and support the active involvement of young people in discussing issues that are of particular importance for the political, social, legal and cultural development of modern society. 

The event also discussed global and local transformational processes that, against the backdrop of the development of digital technologies, affect public consciousness, democratic processes, the dynamics of information production and dissemination, psychological well-being, changes in the labor market, identity formation, and human autonomy.
