ComCom Member Takes Part in European Audiovisual Observatory Conference
Member of the Communications Commission Ivane Makharadze took part in the 73rd session of the executive board of the European Audiovisual Observatory (EAO) and the conference organised by the EAO chair country, which was devoted to the renewal of the EU Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMSD). The board meeting involved the election of the next EAO Executive Director and the development of the 2026 action plan.
The meeting discussed important issues such as the development of the legal framework for the new Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMSD); the role and impact of influencers on the audiovisual sector; protection of the rights of minors in the media sector and deepening the cooperation of the European Audiovisual Observatory with the European Commission, national regulatory authorities, the European Digital Services Council and the newly established European Media Services Council.
Georgia has been a member of the European Audiovisual Observatory since 2016, and was elected as its chair in 2024. Within the framework of Georgia’s chairmanship, ComCom hosted members of EAO in Georgia and held a meeting on the subject of “Market Competitiveness – Impact on the Industry and Regulators in Small Countries.”
The European Audiovisual Observatory has been operating under the umbrella of the Council of Europe since 1992, analysing the facts and data in the European film, broadcasting and audiovisual industry. Member of the Communications Commission Ivane Makharadze is currently a member of the EAO executive board.
