ComCom Member Takes Part in the Meeting of the Steering Committee on Media and Information Society of the Council of Europe
Member of the Communications Commission Ivane Makharadze took part in the 27th plenary meeting of the Steering Committee on Media and Information Society of the Council of Europe (CDMSI), which discussed the steps taken by CDMSI member states to protect the safety of journalists and future initiatives.
The 27th plenary meeting of CDMSI was also devoted to reviewing important issues such as the annual report of the Platform for the Safety of Journalists on press freedom, political pressure, disinformation and media independence in Europe; the recommendations devised by the Committee of Experts on Online Safety and Empowerment of Content Creators and Users (MSI-eSEC); the strategy and practical tools for combatting disinformation; the report published by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on public regulation of content moderation in social media, and the recommendations developed by CDMSI on the impact of artificial intelligence on freedom of expression and strengthening legal and non-legal measures to combat hate speech.
Within the framework of the event, members of the CDMSI also met with the representatives of the Venice Commission, the European Audiovisual Observatory, and the European Platform of Regulatory Authorities (EPRA).
CDMSI is a committee operating under the umbrella of the Council of Europe, which works on issues of media freedom, pluralism, access to information, internet governance and protection of human rights in the digital environment. Georgia is represented on the CDMSI Steering Committee by ComCom member Ivane Makharadze.
