ComCom Presents Initial Results of the Survey of Media Literacy Needs to 150 Teachers

The Communications Commission has presented the initial results of the survey and assessment of media literacy needs to 150 school teachers. Media Literacy Department representative Anna Gvetadze talked about the survey at the eTwinning conference organised by the National Centre for Teacher Professional Development (NCTPD). Based on the survey results, the Commission, in close cooperation with NCTPD and the Ministry of Education and Science, will develop a media literacy standard, manual and training module for general education-level teachers in order to integrate media literacy into formal education. The new resources created during the project will be used to train NCTPD trainers and teachers.

The Communications Commission, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Science and UNESCO, has initiated the process of implementing media literacy in formal education. During the initial stage, the Commission held a survey of media literacy needs in 70 schools, with 500 teachers and 1500 pupils taking part. The results of the survey will be used to develop an educational standard, a textbook and a training module. Financial support for the project is provided by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
