Commissioner Ekaterine Imedadze and IR and Project Management Office representative Mzia Gogilashvili took part in the annual Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR) organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The main topic of the event was “Regulation for a Sustainable Digital Future,” covering innovative global trends, technologies and new realities in the field. This year’s GSR was hosted by Egypt. 

Ekaterine Imedadze appeared in the roles of speaker and moderator at several sessions during the event, discussing current ComCom projects and and prospects for the telecom sector in Georgia. In her role as the chair of the Eastern Partnership Electronic Communications Regulators Network (EaPeReg), she also introduced EaPeReg to the meeting of regional regulatory bodies, and talked about the important factors that facilitate development and accessibility of ICT infrastructure. 

To deepen the cooperation in the field of development of broadband networks and digital maps, a three-way declaration of interest was signed by ITU, EaPeReg and the European Mediterranean Regulators Group (EMERG). Ekaterine Imedadze signed the document on behalf of EaPeReg. 

During the symposium, the creation of the Digital Regulators Network (DRN) was initiated, which serves to deepen cooperation between industry regulators and all parties involved in digital ecosystem projects. The purpose of the cooperation is to facilitate digital transformation through approximation of the relevant policies and regulatory frameworks. 

A separate session was dedicated to supporting the involvement of women in various fields of technology. On behalf of the women of Europe, Ekaterine Imedadze talked about the involvement of women in governance of the telecommunications and digital sector in Georgia. 

During the event, ComCom representatives held meetings with fellow regulators and representatives of innovative global technology companies.

The Global Symposium for Regulators is an annual event of the International Telecommunication Union, in which regulatory authorities and their regional associations take part.
