ComCom Publishes a Guide for Broadcasters to Comply with the Law during Pre-Election Coverage

The Communications Commission has published a guide for broadcasters regarding the regulation of election-related issues to comply with the legislation during the coverage of the pre-election period of the 2024 parliamentary elections. The purpose of the guide is to clarify for the broadcasters the issues that must be in full compliance with the Georgian legislation when covering the elections. The published document is of an informative and advisory nature, and will help broadcasters conduct their activities correctly. In addition, the views of the Communications Commission during the pre-election media monitoring, as well as the approaches of the Commission in case of violations of the legislation, will be predictable for the media representatives.

The guide reviews the obligations set for broadcasters, including the requirements for political advertising, as well as the obligations of broadcasters in relation to airing paid and free political advertising, publishing public opinion surveys and pre-election debates, both in terms of content and coverage period. The document also provides an overview of the legal norms for imposing responsibility on the media for violating the legislation governing election issues, including the Law of Georgia on Broadcasting, the Election Code and the resolutions adopted by the Communications Commission.

The Communications Commission hopes that the guide will assist broadcasters in meeting their obligations under the law.
