ComCom Representative Elected to the Steering Committee on Media and Information Society of the Council of Europe

Head of Legal Support Group of the Communications Commission, Levan Maisuradze, was elected to the committee of experts on empowerment of content creators and users of the Steering Committee on Media and Information Society of the Council of Europe (CDMSI) with 31 votes. Expert committees are composed of independent international experts and national experts from member states of the Council of Europe. Only 7 out of the 46 member states are represented in CDMSI. Expert committees are responsible for producing reports and recommendations of the Council of Europe on current issues in the field of media and information society.

Elections for the two new committees on empowerment of content creators and users (MSI-eSEC) and the impacts of generative artificial intelligence for freedom of expression (MSI-AI) took place at the 24th CDMSI meeting, which was attended by ComCom member Ivane Makharadze. Topics of discussion included the responsible implementation of artificial intelligence into journalism, best practices for sustainable media funding, as well as metaverse and its impact on human rights, the rule of law and democracy.

The session served to develop the action plan for the next 2 years and discuss the reports and relevant recommendations prepared by the CDMSI expert committees.
