ComCom Representatives Take Part in European 5G Conference

Communications Commission member Ekaterine Imadedze and Head of the ComCom Spectrum and Technology Department Sandro Karumidze took part in the European conference on 5G network held in Brussels, where they discussed the political and strategic importance of a successful implementation of 5G internet in the EU countries. The event focussed on the implemented and planned activities aimed at EU spectrum harmonisation, promotion of investments in the telecommunications sector, and strengthening the single digital market. 

The topics of discussion at the conference included the status of the 2030 Digital Decade Goals, the results of the World Radiocommunication Congress WRC-23, and the planned activities aimed at developing the vision for 6G. During high-level panel discussions, presentations were made on the spectrum allocation strategy for the 5th and subsequent network generations in EU countries at national and European levels, the promotion of investments in innovative telecommunication models, as well as the security and sustainability of networks. 

The European 5G Conference, which has been held annually since 2016 with the aim of developing the European 5G ecosystem and telecom sector, was opened by Deputy Director-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology of the European Commission, Renate Nikolay. Participants included the chairman of BEREC, high-level EU and European Parliament representatives for telecom and technology, as well as European Policy Director of the Global System Mobile Association (GSMA) and representatives of Ericsson, NOKIA, Vodafone, Orange and Telefonica.
