ComCom Representatives Take Part in the 19th ITU World Symposium

ComCom member Ekaterine Imedadze and Head of the Market Regulation Department Ekaterine Sichinava took part in the 19th World Telecommunication/ICT Indicators Symposium of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). In addition, ComCom representatives took part in the meetings of the Expert Group on Telecommunication/ICT Indicators (EGTI) and Expert Group on ICT Household Indicators. 

As part of the event, Ekaterine Imedadze held a meeting with the Director of the ITU Development Bureau Cosmas Zavazava, where the parties discussed the lengthy cooperation between ComCom and ITU, as well as future prospects. Mr. Zavazava thanked the ComCom member and stated that Georgia is an important and trustworthy partner for ITU. 

During the high-level session held in the opening part of the symposium, Ekaterine Imadedze introduced the audience to the ComCom projects which serve to improve the collection and analysis of statistical data. In addition, she spoke about the importance of timely collection and analysis of sectoral data, and discussed potential challenges. The high-level panel discussion was moderated by the Director of the ITU Development Bureau Cosmas Zavazava. During the meeting, the conversation also touched on the importance of international cooperation, collection and processing of mega data, and new artificial intelligence strategies.

Participants at the symposium included policymakers, business leaders, representatives of national regulatory bodies, as well as researchers and statisticians. Topics such as new approaches and innovative strategies for improving statistics of access to information and communication technologies were discussed during the event. Additionally, participants discussed the issues of developing adequate measurement tools and mandates to ensure sustainability of the sector. 

As for the meeting of the expert groups, discussions concerned topics such as the conduct of surveys to assess ICT capabilities and the use of artificial intelligence, ICT pricing methodology, collection of service quality indicators, etc. In addition, the meeting discussed the report prepared by the expert group on the ICT Development Index (IDI). 

The Communications Commission continues to prioritise cooperation and sharing of information and experience with fellow regulators and other industry representatives.
