ComCom Representatives Take Part in the 25th Global Symposium for Regulators
Member of the Communications Commission Ekaterine Imedaze and IR Department representative Mzia Gogilashvili took part in the 25th Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR-25), where they held bilateral meetings with the heads of fellow regulators. The symposium was organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Communications, Space and Technology Commission of Saudi Arabia (CST).
Within the framework of the symposium, ComCom representatives held a working meeting with the acting head of the Saudi regulator, which was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the First Secretary. The meeting served to discuss the prospects for future cooperation.
A memorandum of understanding was signed with the Egyptian regulator NTRA, which envisages deepening cooperation and sharing of experience between the regulatory authorities in the areas of electronic communications, consumer protection, satellite systems, and the development of 5G networks.
During the event, representatives of the Communications Commission met with the heads of regulatory authorities of India, Turkey, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as representatives of leading companies in the field of telecommunications, such as Amazon Kuiper, Globalstar and Plan S.
GSR-25 focussed on issues such as the ways to accelerate sustainable digital transformation; methods for collecting data and encouraging innovation for the development of the digital economy; creating cooperation frameworks for sustainable digital transformation; the impact of underwater infrastructure, optical channels and satellite networks on the development of sustainable connectivity; strengthening public trust in new technologies and developing strategic approaches by regulators in this field; protecting user privacy and data, and holding regulators accountable; creating an inclusive and fair digital ecosystem; developing media literacy and digital skills, etc.
GSR is a platform that unites policymakers, telecom operators, industry representatives, agencies and regulators working on telecommunications and digital transformation issues from different regions of the world, and aims to share the best practices in regulating sustainable digital development.
