ComCom Representatives Take Part in the 57th EPRA Meeting

ComCom member Ivane Makharadze, Head of Media Services Department Konstantine Koridze and Head of Media Literacy Department Mariam Dakhundaridze took part in the 57th annual meeting of the European Platform of Regulatory Authorities (EPRA), which was organised by the Norwegian Media Authority. 

170 representatives of the 52 EPRA member regulators, permanent observers, media experts, the OSCE special representative on media freedom issues, representatives of the European Regulators Group for Audio-Visual Media Services (ERGA), as well as representatives of the European Council and the European Commission took part in the event. The main topic of the 2023 meeting was audio-visual media regulation, the experience of EU member states, and the sharing of challenges in this process. 

The first thematic session of the meeting was devoted to the impact of content delivery on politics, regulation and regulators, new content distribution technologies, and related challenges. The second session, chaired by the EPRA chairman, was devoted to the topic – “Media and Information for Public Benefit,” and included a discussion about the challenges and opportunities for public broadcasters. Tinatin Berdzenishvili, CEO of the Georgian Public Broadcaster, was one of the speakers on this topic, together with the CEOs of the Norwegian and Dutch public broadcasters. In her speech, Tinatin Berdzenishvili focused on the importance of sustainable development of public broadcasters, the challenges of digital transformation and the advantages of intellectual property, as well as the role of the Communications Commission in the context of development and support. 

In addition to the sessions, the 57th EPRA meeting included elections for the Executive Board. Director of the Norwegian Media Authority Marie Velsand was elected EPRA Chair.

 

EPRA is an independent and neutral association of European broadcasting regulatory bodies, whose aim is to share best practices and experiences among regulatory bodies.
