ComCom Representatives Take Part in the International Conference “Capacity Eurasia 2025”

Member of the Communications Commission Ekaterine Imedadze and Head of the Market Regulation Department of the Communications Commission, Ekaterine Sichinava, took part in the “Capacity Eurasia 2025” conference in Istanbul organised by Capacity Media. During the event, Ms. Imedadze participated in the panel discussion “New Digital Hubs Connecting Two Continents,” where she talked about Georgia's positioning as a regional digital connectivity hub and highlighted ComCom's involvement in this process.

During the session, which aimed to discuss the issues of turning the countries located at the crossroads of two continents into digital hubs, Ekaterine Imedadze stated that Georgia is the only country in the Caucasus that has a direct underwater connection with the European Union, which gives the country the opportunity to develop into a neutral, stable and secure data exchange platform. In addition, she spoke about ComCom's initiatives that contribute to the development of sustainable high-quality infrastructure in the country, open access, and digital inclusion: “The role of the regulator will evolve from a supervisory role to an enabling function. We need to create digital infrastructure that is open, inclusive and trustworthy, as well as a regulatory model that is flexible, innovative and future-oriented,” Ms. Imedadze stated, drawing the audience's attention to the future prospects: “As digital bridges are built between continents, our task as regulators is to ensure that these bridges are not only fast and efficient, but also inclusive, reliable and sustainable. Georgia is ready to become such a bridge, creating a common digital future.” The session was attended by politicians and leaders from the international telecommunications sector.

The event was also devoted to reviewing important issues such as: developing alternative connectivity options; assessing the impact of various connectivity challenges and the geopolitical situation on data centres in the region; encouraging investments in AI development to strengthen the telecommunications market; promoting network security and sustainable development; transforming telecom companies and services based on customer needs; developing submarine routes, fibre cables, satellite networks, infrastructure for regional connectivity, etc.

The goal of “Capacity Eurasia 2025” is to bring together telecom operators, industry representatives, agencies and regulators working on telecommunications and digital transformation issues from the regions of Eurasia, Caucasus, Central Asia and Eastern Europe, and discuss the opportunities for digital transformation in Eurasia.
