ComCom Representatives Take Part in the Meeting of the Council of Europe Steering Committee on Media and Information Society

Member of the Communications Commission Ivane Makharadze, and Head of the International Relations Department of the Communications Commission Nino Grdzelishvili, took part in the 28th plenary session of the Council of Europe Steering Committee on Media and Information Society (CDMSI). 

The session was devoted to defining CDMSI's priorities for 2026, discussing strategies for combating disinformation and developing national media and information literacy. In addition, the event discussed the activities of the two new expert committees on the protection of media pluralism online, and on the role of media regulators in a platform-based environment. The plenary session also included elections for the CDMSI Chair, Deputy Chair, Bureau, and expert committee members. 

During the event, a representative of the CDMSI Expert Committee on Online Safety and Empowerment of Content Creators and Users (MSI-eSec) presented the recommendations developed by the committee, while a representative of the Expert Committee on the Impact of Generative Artificial Intelligence on Freedom of Expression (MSI-AI) presented the draft manual document developed by the committee. 

During the meeting, representatives of the UNESCO Alliance for Media and Information Literacy, the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, the Coalition for Information Media, the European Audiovisual Observatory, the Group of Friends for the Safety of Journalists and Media Freedom, as well as the Platform for the Protection of Journalists and EPRA, presented information to the CDMSI members on the main priorities of the activities of the relevant organisations. 

CDMSI is a committee operating under the umbrella of the Council of Europe, which works on issues of media freedom, pluralism, access to information, internet governance and the protection of human rights in the digital environment. Georgia's representative on the CDMSI Steering Committee is ComCom member Ivane Makharadze.
