ComCom member Ekaterine Imedadze and Head of International Relations Nino Grdzelisvili took part in the ITU World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-23) in Dubai, where they held meetings with representatives of the regulatory authorities of Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain and UAE to establish cooperation.

During the event, ComCom representatives presented the Commission’s activities, main priorities and ongoing projects to the participants. Afterwards, the parties explored cooperation opportunities and discussed future plans.

A working meeting was also held with SpaceX representatives, discussing issues and plans concerning the provision of high-speed internet through the Starlink satellite system in Georgia. Notably, Georgia became the first country in the region to gain access to the Starlink internet.

The ITU World Radiocommunication Conference takes place every 3 or 4 years. Its purpose is to review and, if necessary, amend the radio regulations and international agreements that regulate the use of the radio frequency spectrum. The main topics of the conference include radio frequency spectrum regulations and related frequency allocation and distribution plans, the spectrum needs of the existing services, as well as geostationary and non-geostationary satellite orbits. During the event, technical regulations and policy elements are discussed at a global level with national government delegations, telecom regulatory authorities, and representatives of major users and providers of radiocommunications.
