ComCom Revokes the Magtifix Licence upon Request from Magticom

The Communications Commission has granted Magticom’s request to terminate the Magtifix licence. According to the information provided by the company, Magtifix currently has no active subscribers. In March 2021, Magticom had 8969 active CDMA subscribers. Documents submitted by the company show that 8534 subscribers extended their contracts with Magticom but stopped using the Magtifix service, while the remaining 432 subscribers were transferred from Magtifix to an alternative service.

Magticom made a similar request for termination of the Magtifix licence in April 2021. To protect customer interests, the Commission rejected the company’s request on that occasion, as more than 10,000 subscribers were still using the service. The Commission ruled that Magticom would be able to terminate the service under the following circumstances: first, if an alternative mobile service was provided to all Magtifix subscribers, or if the network was completely switched off and could not be reactivated through the company’s technical means.

It is also worth noting that on 11 March 2021, the Commission reduced the cost of MagtiCom’s Magtifix service license hundredfold, from GEL 16.1 million to GEL 161,000. Due to the fact that Magticom was able to meet the conditions set by the Commission and provide existing subscribers with an alternative means of communication, the company’s request was granted.
