ComCom Starts to Hold Informational Meetings in Schools to Integrate Media Literacy into Formal Education

To promote integration of media literacy into formal education, the Communications Commission, with the involvement of the Ministry of Education and Science and UNICEF, has started holding informational meetings in schools in Georgian regions. The first meeting was held at public school N6 in Batumi, where a presentation was held for 40 school principals and representatives of the resource centre on the subject of media literacy and the relevant educational resources.

The project to integrate media literacy into formal education serves to add media literacy as an optional subject for X, XI and XII grade students and to raise awareness about media literacy, media and information language, information processing and misinformation among youngsters. To this end, ComCom trained 600 teachers across Georgia in teaching media literacy last year.

The Communications Commission signed a cooperation agreement with the Teachers’ Professional Development Centre (TPDC) and UNICEF, based on which TPDC will receive the resources created within the framework of the project to integrate media literacy into formal education for the further training of 1,000 additional teachers.
