ComCom Teaches More Than 100 Students Safe Use of the Internet and Fake News Detection

The Communications Commission has trained more than 100 students of Public School N71 in Tbilisi in the safe use of the internet and fake news detection. The seminar was part of the media literacy projects “Happy Onlife” and “Truth or Fiction?” Students learned to safely navigate the online space and detect fake information in the media.

The meetings were hosted by representatives of the Media Literacy Department of the Communications Commission, Ani Gvetadze and Nino Machavariani. The “Happy Onlife” seminar was attended by III grade students who learned about the safe and proper use of the internet through games. As part of the “Truth or Fiction?” contest, IX, X and XI grade students learned about the fake news detection and fact verification mechanisms. The information obtained during the seminar will help the high school students develop critical assessment skills and prepare entries for the media literacy contest.

The Communications Commission has been working on developing media literacy skills among teenagers, parents and teachers for more than five years.
