ComCom to Enhance Cooperation with Samtskhe-Javakheti State University on Media Literacy

To promote the integration of media literacy into formal education, a mutual cooperation agreement was signed between the Communications Commission and Samtskhe-Javakheti State University. The agreement was signed by ComCom member Natia Kukuladze and university rector Maka Beridze. The cooperation will involve joint projects in the field of media literacy, masterclasses by local and international experts, as well as thematic and scientific conferences. To integrate media literacy into higher education, the Communications Commission will share with the University media literacy training materials, syllabus and educational resources for students and academic staff.

The first public lecture held within the framework of the cooperation was titled “Development of Media Literacy in Georgia,” where students received information about the activities and projects of the Communications Commission in the field of media literacy development. The meeting also discussed issues such as the role and importance of media literacy in the era of modern digital challenges, the ways to detect fake news, disinformation and misinformation, and others. In addition, a discussion was held with the students and lecturers of Samtskhe-Javakheti State University about the challenges that are especially important in regions densely populated by ethnic minorities.
