As part of the media literacy contest “Truth or Fiction?”, the Communications Commission trained 150 pupils of public schools in Marneuli, Gurjaani, Sagarejo, and the village of Saimerlo. The meetings were led by ComCom Media Literacy Department representative Tamar Karbaia, who explained the terms of the contest and the issues relating to the submission process and fake news detection to the youngsters. 

Using materials from BBC Academy, students shared their methods of detecting fake news and verifying facts. Participants also learned about issues such as the different types of fake news, separation of facts and opinion, information verification methods, and fabrication of photos and videos. 

The eleventh edition of the “Truth or Fiction?” contest, which aims to develop fact-checking and critical thinking skills, will run until 15 June. IX, X and XI grade pupils will be able to take part until that deadline. Winners will receive prizes from the Communications Commission, including a MacBook Air 15.3, an iPhone 15 Pro, and an iPad 10.9.
