ComCom Trains 300 Sokhumi University Students in Detecting Fake News

To develop media literacy skills among young people, the Communications Commission held a seminar on the subject of detecting fake information for more than 300 students at the Sokhumi State University. Media literacy trainer Ani Gvetadze talked to students about the mechanisms for identifying fake news, verifying sources and establishing real facts. Materials from the BBC Academy were used to train students in detecting fake information.

The Communications Commission continues to hold meetings at universities to raise awareness about the importance of media literacy and develop the relevant skills among young people. In October, the Commission trained more than 500 students in detecting fake news. Seminars were held at the state universities of Tbilisi, Sokhumi and Telavi, the Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, the Shota Rustaveli University of Theatre and Film, the Kutaisi Akaki Tsereteli State University, the Georgian National University, the Caucasus University and the Business and Technology University. The seminars will help students develop logical and critical thinking, analysis and fact-checking skills.
