Within the framework of the “Truth or Fiction?” contest, the Communications Commission has held a training for bachelor’s degree students of Kutaisi Akaki Tsereteli University. The seminar was chaired by the ComCom Media Literacy Department representative Mariam Bibilashvili, who explained the terms of the contest and the issues relating to the submission process to the youngsters. Participants used BBC Academy materials to improve their knowledge about fact-checking and fake news detection mechanisms. They also examined some of the winning works from the previous contests. 

The tenth edition of the “Truth or Fiction?” contest, which aims to develop fact-checking and critical thinking skills, will run until 10 December. According to the rules, participants are required to identify fake news in the media space (internet, television and printed media) that had not yet been confirmed as inaccurate. Using the format of their choice, the students then have to explain how they identified the information, present the relevant source and establish real facts surrounding the case. Competition winners will be selected by a competent jury panel. Winners will receive prizes from the Communications Commission, including a MacBook Air 15.3, an iPhone 15 Pro, and an iPad 10.9. 

Apart from the prizes, the Commission will also help the contest winners and other successful participants in career development and provide them with certified training. Upon the completion of the course, participants will obtain trainer status and will have the opportunity to get involved in media literacy projects, sharing their knowledge and experience with students and school pupils.
