ComCom Will Make “Hello Ruby” Books Available to All Schools

The Communications Commission, with the support of the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth Affairs of Georgia, will make “Hello Ruby” – a book on computer science for elementary school students – available to all schools. To this end, ComCom conducted an online workshop for computer technology teachers by “Hello Ruby” author Linda Liukas, recognised as a digital ambassador by the European Commission.

During the meeting, Linda Liukas introduced the “Hello Ruby” books to the teachers and provided them with detailed information about modern methodologies and approaches to teaching programming, as well as the effective use of these approaches in the educational process. The seminar was attended by more than 20 teachers who received trainer status after the seminar and will train other computer technology teachers in implementing the “Hello Ruby” books in the teaching process in the future.

“Hello Ruby” is a series of books for primary school pupils on the basics of programming and computer science. It has been recognised and translated in 36 countries, and has been integrated into the school curriculum in New York.

In 2019, the Communications Commission obtained the license to publish the books in Georgian language. Since then, 17,500 textbooks have been published. As of today, more than 10,000 pupils in 100 schools are using this resource to learn the basics of computer science.
