Communications Commission and EU Delegation to GeorgiaHold Trainings for 50 Teachers during the Media Literacy Week

As part of the media literacy week, the Communications Commission, with the support of the EU Delegation to Georgia trained 50 teachers in tackling disinformation. Teachers from public schools and vocational colleges in Tbilisi, Racha-Lechkhumi and Imereti received training in critical thinking and learned about the methods of detecting disinformation and verifying content. Teachers were trained with the help of a training module developed specifically for this project. The module allowed the participants to learn about the negative impact of disinformation and anti-western propaganda and find out about the mechanisms for tackling the spread of such disinformation. Teachers were taught practical methods of identifying false information through media literacy skills.

As part of the project “The Challenge of Disinformation: Developing Critical Thinking in Schools,” the Communications Commission has trained more than 500 teachers since August. Trainings have been held at 30 locations across the whole country, including the regions with large ethnic minority populations. Teachers from public schools and vocational colleges in Tbilisi, Kvemo Kartli, Imereti, Adjara, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, Guria, Kakheti, Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Shida Kartli, Samtskhe-Javakheti and Racha-Lechkhumi have been trained in dealing with challenges posed by disinformation.
