Communications Commission and Partners Host the Digital Transformation Forum

As part of the Digital Transformation Forum, the Communications Commission hosted panel discussions on the telecom industry and media literacy. The event was organised by the Commission and the Georgian ICT Cluster with the support of the USAID economic governance programme. During the panel discussions, industry representatives and experts delivered speeches on the importance of opening the telecom market and developing media literacy in Georgia. 

The first panel discussion was opened by the Communications Commission member Ekaterine Imedadze and head of the Georgian ICT Cluster Davit Kiziria. It concerned the role of the telecom sector in the digital transformation process in Georgia, and future development prospects. The panel discussed important topics such as the prospects for developing a digital hub and a safe digital corridor in Georgia, the requirements and vision for implementing 5G technology and enabling market access for virtual operators, the development of broadband infrastructure in the regions, the progress of the Universal Internetization Project, and innovative digital platforms in Georgia. The discussion involved representatives of the World Bank, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, Open Net, MVNO Association, GITA, the Small and Medium Telecom Operators Association of Georgia, and the Data Analysis Lab. Participants discussed the implemented and planned projects in the field of digital transformation. 

The second panel was devoted to the role of media literacy in the age of information. It was opened by the Communications Commission member Natia Kukuladze. The panel discussed topics media literacy-related topics such as the benefits and challenges concerning media literacy development in Georgia, the role of media literacy in civil education, the steps taken to integrate media literacy into the teaching process, and the role of media literacy in the professional development of teachers. 

During the discussion, participants summarised the projects implemented in the field of digital literacy and cyber ethics. The panel included representatives of the Communications Commission and partner organisations such as UNICEF, National Centre for Teacher Professional Development, Media Academy, GeoLab, PH International and BTU. 

The Digital Transformation Forum opened on 27 June 2022 and continued for five days, covering the following topics: state technologies, digital transformation, education and communications.
