Communications Commission Authorises Starlink

Starlink – a satellite internet service provided by Elon Musk’s company SpaceX, has received authorisation from the Communications Commission, which it requested on 8 July 2022. Starlink Georgia is currently preparing to begin practical operations. According to the terms of the authorisation, SpaceX will provide high-speed broadband services through Starlink in Georgia. 

A representative of SpaceX visited the Communications Commission at the end of last month, discussing the issue of launching the Starlink satellite internet service in Georgia. The meeting between ComCom and Starlink representatives also resulted in an agreement about future cooperation. 

Starlink is one of the world’s leading satellite broadband system that provides access to fast broadband internet across the world, including in places where access to internet is expensive, unreliable, inadequate or completely unavailable. As of today, SpaceX has launched more than 2700 low orbit satellites for the Starlink system. Starlink especially important and attractive for the mountainous regions and settlements that currently do not have broadband internet coverage. The introduction of Starlink will ensure access to high-speed internet for the population in all such geographical areas.
