Communications Commission Conducts Media Literacy Training for the Teachers and Pupils of the European School

The Communications Commission continues to develop critical thinking and media literacy skills in schools. Three target groups in the European School – III and IV grade pupils, VII and VIII grade pupils, and teachers – were trained by the Commission’s media literacy trainers in safely using the internet and identifying fake news.

30 pupils of III and IV grades attended the training and received detailed information about the threats of the internet and learned how to protect themselves from its harmful effects. The pupils learned about the online app Happy Onlife, which was created precisely for the purpose of teaching young people to safely navigate on the internet.

15 pupils of VII and VIII grades were trained in identifying fake news online and distinguishing between real and fake information. Additionally, more than 10 teachers were trained in tackling disinformation. They received detailed information about the importance of media literacy and practical tools of fighting disinformation. Experience gained during the training will help them share their knowledge with pupils and teach them how to distinguish fact from opinion and detect disinformation.

The Communications Commission will continue to conduct media literacy trainings in schools.
