The Communications Commission and the Small and Medium Telecom Operators Association of Georgia have organised an online conference to introduce internet development initiatives. The goal of the Internet Measurement Day was to share local and international experiences about effective internet measuring mechanisms. The event was opened by the Communications Commission member Ekaterine Imedadze, who talked about the importance of high-quality and safe connections in the digital age and the need to share modern experiences in this field. Ms Imedadze informed her colleagues about the Commission’s activities and projects that have been implemented for the purpose of developing the internet. One of the sessions of the event was dedicated to internet quality monitoring. ComCom representatives introduced the internet quality control platform SHEAMOTSME.GE to their international partners.

Head of Telecommunication Infrastructure and Technologies Department, Mikheil Jgamadze, spoke about the effectiveness of the project and provided the public with detailed information on the topic of measuring internet quality.

Ekaterine Imedadze emphasised the importance of the Communications Commission’s cooperation with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and the RIPE Network Coordination Centre, stating that the parties are effectively working together on exchanging local and global statistical/analytical data, as well as developing the DNS ecosystem and promoting national internet domain names (IDNs).

As part of the cooperation, the parties are implementing joint projects to strengthen DNS security, internet stability, online safety and development of the internet in Georgia.

The Internet Measurement Day is an initiative by ICANN and RIPE NCC. Participants include representatives of regulatory bodies, network operators, country code top-level domain administrators, industry developers and the public sector. The goal of the event is to establish a platform for local and international organisations to exchange effective internet measurement tools and experiences.
