Communications Commission Member Ivane Makharadze Attends EPRA Conference

Communications Commission member Ivane Makharadze and other representatives of the Commission took part in the 55th annual meeting of the European Platform of Regulatory Authorities (EPRA). The meeting took place on 11-13 May in Antwerp, Belgium. Important topics discussed during the meeting included the harmful effect of advertising on minors. 

EPRA also discussed the significance and role of media regulators in digital environment, the importance of media freedom and the impact of disinformation on global events, particularly during conflicts. 

Participating delegates exchanged information and experience on regulating both traditional and online media. The parties also discussed future cooperation details. A separate session of the meeting was devoted to sharing information about the experiences of EU countries with the new Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVSMD) and the related challenges. 

Along with the regulatory bodies, attendees at the meeting included the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, representatives of the European Regulators Group for Audiovisual Media (ERGA), the Council of Europe and the European Commission. Georgia has been a member of EPRA since 2013.
