Ekaterine Imedadze Speaks at the GSR-25 Symposium about Regional Harmonization and Georgia’s Potential as a Digital Hub

Member of the Communications Commission Ekaterine Imedaze and IR Department representative Mzia Gogilashvili took part in the 25th Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR-25). One of the key outcomes of the symposium was the adoption of the GSR Best Practice Guidelines (GSR), which set out a future vision for the regulation of global digital markets. The Communications Commission was actively involved in the consultation process and presented its vision both in the format of a roundtable of heads of regulators, as well as in the format of the meeting of regulators' associations and the Digital Regulation Network (DRN).

Speaking at the roundtable session of the heads of regulators, Ekaterine Imedadze highlighted the current projects and successful experiences of the Communications Commission, such as the first holistic study of the telecommunications markets and the strategy for opening the market and promoting innovative business models, price benchmarking, service availability research, and the internet quality monitoring programme. During the meeting of regulators' associations and DRN, Ekaterine Imedadze, on behalf of the Eastern Partnership Electronic Communications Regulators Network (EaPeReg), highlighted the importance of regional cooperation and presented EaPeReg's successful experiences and ongoing projects. Particular attention was paid to the need for regional harmonisation and future-oriented regulatory tools.

“It is important that Georgia’s voice is heard on this global platform. At GSR-25, we are not only sharing the best practices, but also creating an environment of trust and partnership, which is necessary for developing an inclusive and future-oriented digital ecosystem. Georgia remains committed to the strategic aspiration of becoming a trusted regional digital hub connecting Europe and Asia,” Ekaterine Imedadze noted.

During the symposium, the ComCom member moderated a thematic session titled “From Earth to Space: Trust and Fostering Innovation,” which brought together high-level representatives from regulatory associations and the telecommunications sector. The session discussed how the regulatory framework can balance innovation and security, creating a low-risk and open telecom ecosystem.

In support of the Inclusive Governance Initiative, Ekaterine Imedadze also moderated an interactive session of the ITU Development Bureau Network of Women (NoW) at the symposium. The thematic discussions were dedicated to sharing expertise, visions and challenges by women leaders in the field of technology. The aim of the session was to support the creation of an open and flexible environment in digital governance.

In addition, the ComCom IR Department representative Mzia Gogilashvili took part in a master class for regulators at GSR-25, which was dedicated to discussing the opportunities and challenges of artificial intelligence.
