The European Audiovisual Observatory (EAO) has published an overview of the media literacy development projects implemented by the Communications Commission. Titled “Media Literacy and Consumer Empowerment,” the article talks about facilitating the integration of media literacy into formal education by ComCom, the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth and UNICEF, and the results achieved in this regard.
“Since 2018, the ComCom Media Literacy Department has been actively working with other interested organisations to promote the development of media literacy. Through a range of projects and activities, their efforts are aimed at empowering individuals, developing digital skills and promoting informed decision-making,” the article reads.
Furthermore, the article focusses on joint activities of the Commission and the Teachers’ Professional Development Centre (TPDC), which aim to raise awareness about media literacy among students, teachers and parents.
The document highlights the critical importance of media literacy and reviews the existing strategies for strengthening and developing media literacy skills among consumers.
The European Audiovisual Observatory has been operating under the umbrella of the Council of Europe since 1992, analysing the facts and data in the European film, broadcasting and audiovisual industry. The organisation currently has 41 members. Georgia became a member in 2016, and is represented at EAO by the Communications Commission.
