Media Literacy Activities of Communications Commission Described as Best Awareness-Raising Examples by EPRA

Communications Commission member Natia Kukuladze, Head of the Media Literacy Development Department Mariam Dakhundaridze and Acting Head of the Department of Audiovisual Media Services Regulation Konstantine Koridze took part in the 56th annual meeting of the European Platform of Regulatory Authorities (EPRA). A significant part of the meeting was devoted to media literacy development, the role of regulatory bodies and media literacy support mechanisms.

During the meeting, which was attended by 150 representatives from 47 countries, Mariam Dakhundaridze presented the activities planned by Georgia for the Global Media and Information Literacy Week, which were deemed to be the best examples of media literacy development and awareness raising by members of the EPRA board. The EPRA meeting takes place annually. At this year’s meeting, participants discussed issues related to the regulation of traditional and digital media. Other discussion topics included the regulation of video sharing platforms in the context of implementing the new audiovisual directive (AVMSD), the experience of EU member states, and the existing challenges in this process. Participants discussed the role of regulatory bodies in the development of digital environment, the potential impact of consumer behaviour on political polarisation, as well as examples of the use of AI in data collection and processing.

Together with the regulatory committees, participants at the meeting included representatives of the European Regulators Group for Audiovisual Media (ERGA), European Council, European Commission, regulatory bodies of EU member states, as well as the special representative of OSCE. Georgia has been a member of EPRA since 2013.
