Parliament of Georgia Elects Ivane Makharadze as Member of the Communications Commission

The Parliament of Georgia has elected Ivane Makharadze as the fifth member of the Communications Commission with 81 votes. He will hold the position of the Commissioner for a period of six years. 

Ivane Makharadze has worked at the Communications Commission for 14 years, going through every career stage at the organisation. He started out as Broadcasting Regulation Department specialist, then held the positions of Senior Specialist and Chief Specialist, and headed the Audiovisual Media Service Department from 2013 onwards. Mr. Makharadze is a member of the European Platform of Regulatory Authorities (EPRA) and the Georgian representative at the European Audiovisual Observatory.  

Mr. Makharadze has worked on issues of national importance such as bringing the Law of Georgia on Broadcasting in line with EU legislation. In 2017–1018, he was a member of the Committee of Experts on Media Pluralism and Transparency of Media Ownership (MSI-MED). 

Ivane Makharadze is a lawyer by profession, having graduated from the Faculty of International Law and International Relations at the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University in 2004, and obtaining a master’s degree in media law from the Europa-Institut (Saarland University) in 2006.
