Q1 2023 Advertising Revenues of TV and Radio Broadcasters Total GEL 15.6 Million

In the first quarter of 2023, the total advertising revenues of TV and radio broadcasters fell by 12.5% year-on-year to GEL 15.6 million. Revenues of TV broadcasters from commercial advertising totalled GEL 14.1 million, which represents a GEL 2.2 million decrease over the same period in 2022. Direct advertising accounted for 66.7% of the revenues of TV broadcasters. The share of sponsorship revenues fell by 1.2%, while the share of product placement revenues increased by 5.5% year-on-year. 

The advertising revenues of radio broadcasters in Q1 2023 increased by 2.6% year-on-year to GEL 1.5 million. Direct advertising accounted for 87.82% of the revenues, while sponsorship accounted for 12.16%. 

Commercial advertising revenues include adverts, sponsorship, product placement, notices and teleshopping. 

From March 1, 2022, broadcasters are no longer allowed to air gambling ads. Prior to the regulations taking effect, gambling firms were among the largest advertisers. During the first quarter of 2022, TV and radio broadcasters received GEL 4.8 million in advertising revenues from gambling firms.
