The Communications Commission Trains IX Grade Pupils in Media Economics

The Communications Commission has trained IX grade pupils of School Nº55 in Media Economics to develop their media literacy skills. During the training, students received comprehensive information on social media funding sources. The youngsters learned about the role of each customer in funding social media. The media literacy trainer also focused on the aspects of protecting personal information, cyberbullying and threats on the internet. 

The media literacy project “Media Economics,” which has been recognized as a successful and effective initiative by EU countries and the Evens Foundation, serves to develop media literacy skills among young people, and is focused on teaching the principles of digital media economics. The Communications Commission developed a module of lessons with the author of the course, Director of the Zaffiria Media Education Center Alessandra Falconi, and adapted it specifically to Georgian schools. 

The “Media Economics” project is recognized as a unique approach to raising the awareness of young people about media threats. The target audience of the course are pupils between 10 and 15 years of age, who are taught through multimedia platforms, the internet, as well as through practical and interactive activities. The project “Media Economics“ introduces children to the fundamental economic principles of social media. Furthermore, the project aims for the youngsters to be properly informed about their online personas.           

“Media Economics” trainings are being held in public schools throughout Georgia  . In total, up to 1000 pupils in 50 schools will receive training by the end of 2021.
