Webinar for Media Literacy Teachers – “How to Teach Media Literacy?”

The Communications Commission, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, organised an informational webinar for school teachers and principals titled “How to Teach Media Literacy?” Nearly 450 teachers interested in teaching media literacy attended the webinar and received detailed information about media literacy education. 

During the webinar, member of the Communications Commission Natia Kukuladze talked about the importance and outcomes of the Media Literacy Integration Project. Mariam Chikobava, Deputy Head of the General Education Department of the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth, presented the audience with the updated media literacy standard, which, together with the relevant guide, will soon be made available to all teachers interested in teaching the subject. Media literacy expert Tamar Darsalia delivered a detailed presentation on teaching media literacy and provided participants with comprehensive information about the procedural requirements that schools and teachers need to consider when selecting and teaching the subject. 

In 2022, the Communications Commission, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), launched the “Integration of Media Literacy into Formal Education” project. Media literacy was integrated into formal education in 2023, while the engagement and interest from schools has been growing significantly each year.
